Former Governor of Anambra State and former Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi has said that President Tinubu has kept to his campaign promises.
Mr. Obi made the assertion while featuring as guest this evening in a prime time democracy day interview on Arise Television.
According to Peter Obi President Tinubu during his campaign ahead of 2023 elections, promised to continue from where Former President Muhammadu Buhari stopped, adding that Tinubu has kept to his words by taking the economy, insecurity, corruption, borrowing and flagrant disregard for the rule of law from bad to worst as he promised.
On the democracy day celebration taking place today, June 12, Mr. Obi says all indices of democracy and its supposed benefits to the people are unfortunately on a downward slide in the country beginning from credible elections, economy, transparency in governance, and absence of democratic dividends.
In his words, “The first question to ask is are we practicing democracy? The answer is that what we are practicing is state capture, and those that captured it have also taken all the benefits accrued to us via democracy. It’s unfortunate”.
He decried the inability of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct free elections at a time that countries like India, South Africa, Morocco are conducting credible elections.
Speaking on and on, Peter Obi when asked to rate President Tinubu’s performance in the last one year in office, said that in his opinion President Tinubu has kept to his campaign promises of continuing from where Former President Muhammadu Buhari stopped, adding that Tinubu had taken the economy, insecurity, corruption, borrowing and flagrant disregard for the rule of law from bad to worst as he promised.
