…As 210 youths graduate from Oil and Gas Academy in Mkpat Enin.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has commended Mkpat Enin Local Government Area for aligning to the developmental drive and visionary leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, to set the pace in local human capacity building and economic development.

The Senior Special Adviser on Technical Matters, Elder Ufot Ebong who represented the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, stated this during the maiden graduation ceremony of 210 Mkpat Enin youths trained on specialized vocational and technical skills in Safety, Scaffolding and Rigging at the Oil and Gas Academy, Nya-odiong, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

Elder Ebong lauded Mkpat Enin Council Chairman, Hon. Ekanem Brown for keying into the Dakkada philosophy of the State by rising to togetherness to consolidate on projects of past Council leadership, a match towards becoming an economic power in Akwa Ibom State and also charting a new course for the good people of Mkpat Enin to greatness.

According to Ebong who is the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on technical Matters”all hands must be on deck to identify and develop talents, to acquire skills in other to earn a living. It is only when an overwhelming majority of our young people, male and female have jobs that we can experience social peace, security and harmony and Mkpat Enin under Ekanem Brown is a pacesetting Local Government in human capacity development”.

In his welcome address, Hon. Brown applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for giving Akwa Ibom people the Dakkada philosophy, adding that such is the reason thousands of youths from Mkpat Enin extraction have risen to seize the opportunity to apply for the training though the council could only accommodate 210 youths in the first phase of training.

“Indeed the fire and spirit of enterprise has been ignited in our people and we have no option than to domesticate it by giving our people the fishing tools to fish for themselves, create their own future and live their dreams” he said.

The Council Chief further stated that “there is no other way to ensure peace, security, industrialization and economic growth than to create opportunities for teeming young population to get quality education, learn 21st Century skills and earn a living and this training is aimed at creating pool of specialized technical skills to service the manpower needs of industries and IOCs operating in Akwa Ibom state and beyond.”

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Hon.(Barr) Ekong Sampson stated that the State Government is driving an advocacy to ensure that all Indigenous Oil Companies (IOCs) and their consultant operating within the shores of Akwa Ibom State must have operational offices in the State.

This he said will open up employment opportunities to graduates and graduands of the Oil and Gas Academy.

Ekong Sampson and other speakers including the Chairman of Ikono Local Government, Hon. Itoro Columba applauded Ekanem Brown for selflessly continuing the projects and programmes of his predecessors for the benefit of the people as against seeking self glorification.

High point of the event were; tour of the expansive facility of oil and gas academy, NyaOdiong and presentation of Certificates to graduands by the Member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ekwere.
