The First Lady of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Mrs. ImaAbasi Ekanem Brown has fulfilled her pledge to empower 120 women with a revolving loan of ten thousand naira (N10,000) each while 60 women have received a grant of fifty thousand naira (N50,000) each for businesses support courtesy of her pet project, Mboho Uforo Iban Mkpat Enin (MUME)
The cash was given out over the weekend at the council Secretariat to conclude the grand celebrations and the 5th empowerment exercise of the body with the theme “Repositioning Women for Success”.
Recall that the celebrations which took place penultimate week had in attendance the wife of the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel.
Speaking at the grand women empowerment celebration and SME exhibition, the wife of the state governor, Her Excellency Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel who was the special guest of honour, expressed her happiness toward the programme stating that “it shows the wife of the chairman is in touch with her strides through FEYReP at the state level”.
Mrs. Emmanuel said by keying into her programmes and vision for the women of the state especially at the grassroots, the wife of the chairman has made her work easier.
“Let me appreciate the wife of the chairman for this wonderful initiative that I’ve seen today, I must say that I’m impressed by the level of commitment and support given the women of the area. Like I’ve always posited, I cannot do this alone and as such, this will go a long way in complementing what we are doing.” First Lady Martha remarked.
She further encouraged other wives of chairmen in the state to emulate the Mkpat Enin example by replicating same in their respective domains, saying she will always be there to lend her support. On her part, Mrs. Emmanuel donated financially in support of the programme.
On the home front, the wife of the State Chief Executive used the occasion to charge the rural mothers not to abdicate their responsibilities as home builders in the society, saying cases of rape, cultism and other anomalies are as a result of dysfunctional homes.
Earlier in her welcome remarks on that day, the host and wife of the chairman of Mkpat Enin, Mrs. Imabasi Brown said she was impressed upon to act following the wonderful results the governor’s wife has recorded through her pet project FEYReP.
She said the scheme which is in its fifth phase has empowered no fewer than 600 women with revolving loans so far, assuring that more will be done in coming months.
She acknowledged the contributions of personalities including her the council Chairman Hon. Ekanem Brown, the commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, RT. Hon. Ekong Sampson, SSA to the Governor on Power, Engr. Meyen Etukudo, the MD of Medalyn Group, Barr. Ben Udonwa, her school, You-Nik Academy and other contributors who made the funds available.
