The Commissioner for works in Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen has vowed to go hard on vendors who trade using makeshift containers on the roadside in Eket urban city.

The tough talking Commissioner made the pledge in Uyo during a radio interview on planet FM.

Reacting to a question on why he doesn’t pay satisfactory monetary compensation to owners of properties before demolition as compared to his immediate past predecessor Mr. Don Etim, who served as Commissioner for work under Governor Godswill Akpabio.

In reaction, Mr. Inyang-eyen opined that he pays due compensation on properties as recommended by valuers and there after focuses on supervision of road projects.

He said “Let me ask one question and I want the answer to come from your conscience, are Akwa Ibom people happy with what Don Etim did in the state?

“Would you prefer me to use state resources to over pay people who place containers illegally on the road side, because those containers were not supposed to be on the road in the first place.
“And let me say this. We will soon visit Eket and I will descend on containers without NOTICE and I will wipe all of them away…”.

Continuing, the Commissioner threw more light on his recent visit to the National Assembly. He revealed that a total of 398 projects have been abandoned by Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC in Akwa Ibom state since inception.

He also gave hope that the state government will complete most of ongoing road projects by December 2019.
