AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT SET TO EXPAND COCONUT PLANTATION
…As more communities in Mkpat Enin LGA benefits from the development.

In furtherance of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s industrialization drive, wealth creation and sustainable development, the Akwa Ibom State Government has taken steps to boost the production of coconuts by expanding its plantation across nine (9) more communities in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

Meeting with the Clan Heads, Village Heads and Youth leaders of the affected communities, the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Arch. Ime Ekpo articulated that to fully harness the coconut refinery and be the major producer of coconut oil and other products in the value chain, the government has seen the need to increase the production of raw materials to actualize its goal.

To this end, more land is required to achieve this purpose and nine communities in Mkpat Enin have been marked out to benefit from the developmental drive of the government.

The names of villages in the newly acquired area for coconut plantation EXPANSION are:
Asong, Atanuk, Ikot Edim, Ikot Obio Ekpong, Ikot Etefia Ukam, Ikot Obong Ukam, Minya, Ikot Akpaden, Ikot Oyoro.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs, Dr. Glory Edet said that Governor Emmanuel’s led-administration is people oriented and as such deems necessary to always engage with custodians of the land on goverment’s developmental plan in other to have a seamless process.

In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon. Ekanem Brown informed the gathering that the government has decided to interface with the traditional leaders of the communities to intimate them on its expansion and development in the area.

The Clan Heads, Village Heads and Youth leaders unanimously applauded the new development as it will create more employments for the teeming youths from the area.

They pledged their readiness to partner with government to actualize its industrialization agenda while also appealing for the construction of roads within the communities.
